It's hard to believe these days, but
Connecticut used to have an extensive
number of Sunday closing regulations,
commonly known as the "Blue Laws".

Back when I was a child there were very few
stores open on Sunday, it was considered
God's day. This started to change in the 60's,
and today except for alcohol sales you can
shop from morning to night any Sunday you
like.

As a kid I remember going to the movies on
Sunday afternoons, but in the 1920's my
father couldn't. The Blue Laws closed the
theaters that day.

It seems the Bijou was the theater of choice
for traveling religious societies. It was
rented almost every Sunday for bible
lectures. Here are a few of the ads run in the
